Interview with Hunting Area Brain County

I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am about this interview!
If you read the guest post my friend from Germany, Hendrik did, he put one of Hunting Area Brain County's songs on there, well it was pretty obvious that their song "Now Its Time For Rehab" was my favorite out of all the songs he posted. Ever since then I've been obsessed. The vocalist, Marcus has some of the most amazing vocals I've heard in a while. I think I'm in love(:
Nahh, but I mean seriously, HABC is making their way up in my top ten favorite bands. So, THANK YOU Hendrik for introducing me to HABC.

Listen to them, and you'll understand how amazing they really are.

Q. How did you get started?
We started as a three member new metal alternative band around 6 years ago. One of our current guitar players used to be the former guitar player/singer, the same with our current drummer. Additionally we had a girl on the bass. It was the very beginning of all and the whole music thing was pretty much a journey. We all didn't know what was going to happen and which way the music will come to evolve. But in this period we all had musical paragons yet such as Korn, Machine Head, Unearth and stuff like that.

Q. Where do you get your inspiration from?
Pretty much from all type of things like the every day life, but also there are some kind of sudden inspirations too, which are simply there now and then. Cannot explain that precise. We're all weired type of humans, who has a lot of weired stuff in our heads. And of course there are the musical influences again from other bands inside the modern metal scene in all kinds of music. Everything can influence you. There are no limits or formulas.

 Q. What has been your favorite venue so far? And what's your dream venue?
So, if you ask ME, probably it has to be the yesterday's show in Eisenach in the venue called "Schlachthof". Great stage, good sound, good sound people and simply a good planning. You just notice and see when people do know what they're doing. Our dream venue would be on a festival like the "With full Force" or "Summerbreeze" I suppose. This has to be pretty cool.

 Q. If you had a chance to interview a musician who would it be, and why?
That's tough, because everyone in the band listens to such different stuff and it's pretty hard to give an answer so everyone having equal rights . But it has to be a musician who fills in all styles of music such as deathmetal, ambient, blackmetal, hardcore, rock, electro, progressive, mathcore, classic and so much more. But I think it could be one guy of Whitechapel, because they givin' us such a huge inspiration in technical and songwriting and the new record simply burns your brains away.

Q. If you could thank somebody for helping you fulfill your dreams as a musician, who would it be? And why?
This has to be all people who always supported us in any way. It has to be our fans, the planning people from the shows, our producers etc.. We always had this "looking forward" attitude, no matter with or without support from other people. We just do our thing and keep going and going. It might sound a little selfish, but I think first we have to thank ourselves because of all the endurance we got in the past in good times or bad times, it doesn't matter.

   Q.  If you weren't involved in music, what would you be doing in life right now?
Well, right now we ARE in the position, that we cannot live by the music itself. In Germany and I suppose in pretty much all countries across Europe it's not that easy to live as a musician by itself, no matter if you're doing metal or whatever. Music here unfortunately is not as popular and it's not that much supported like in the US. We all have our regular jobs/scholastic and without it we couldn't manage the band. And it is a good compensation between the music thing and the job. Maybe sometime in future we have the luck to play stages around the world and touring around the whole planet. That would be great.

Q. If mom was going to make your favorite home-cooked meal, what would it be?
It would be some kind of fish-pasta-potato-tomato-cheese mixed souffle with a glass of red wine :).

     Q. What do you do in your down time?
Listening to music, playing video games, reading books, making love, watching good movies, eating too much of chocolate, shopping. Yeah, the usual stuff. :)

          Q.  Have you had any really embarrassing mishaps on stage?
Yeah, we had the big idea to let grow nothing but an mustache in our faces for just one show. We all looked like a bunch of jerks. But of course this was our own idea, so you can't talk about a "real" embarrassing moment here. But accident stuff like falling off stages or smashin' guitar into the face of another member didn't happen as far I can remember.

Q. What positive message do you want to send through your music to your fans?
Just do your thing, be creative instead of just copying bands! Right now in Germany the modern deahmetal and hardcore scene is so crowded with lookalikes and wannabes. They all wanna be unique, but in the end they all sound the same and that's such a pity. Music is more than fashion and image. It's about creation and feeling.

Q. What are your influences from? Which bands, musicians? Whitechapel, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Morbid Angel, Warbringer, All Shall Perish, The Ocean, The Black Dahlia Murder, Gojira, Deftones, Cryptopsy, Genghis Tron and so much more.
Check out HABC Myspace to listen (and download!)
