 How did you get started?
Zurich started in 2007. We were all 13 or 14 at the time and we were just learning how to play our instruments. We all had similar tastes in music which was made up mostly Thrash Metal and the Swedish Melodic Death scene from the early 90s. At the time and we just felt it was essential we started jamming. At the start we pretty much just stuck to playing cover songs and it wasn't until the next summer we started writing material. Overtime as our tastes expanded, we started mixing different elements into the music into what have become our "Sound".

Where do you get your inspiration from?
Musically, I take influence from various artists ranging from technical acts like Meshuggah to more atmospheric and ethereal bands like Sigur Ros and My Bloody Valentine.

What has been your favorite venue so far? And what's your dream venue?
We are primarily a studio band and we do not have many gigs under our belt but I would say our first show which was at school was really fun and we learning a lot from that show. For me personally, I have always dreamed of playing famous venues like Royal Albert Hall in England, Cirkus in Stockholm, and Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

If you had a chance to interview a musician who would it be, and why?
I would choose Efrim Menuck of "Godspeed You! Black Emperor" and  "Thee Silver Mt. Zion" Why? He doesn't do many interviews at all so getting a chance to ask him some questions would be great plus, he is one of my favorite songwriters.

If you could thank somebody for helping you fulfill your dreams as a musician, who would it be? And why?
My Mother and Father for buying my first guitar and drum kit which got me to the place I currently stand. They always support me and they back me 100% in whatever I choose to do with my music and I am extremely lucky to have parents who do so. Love them.

If you weren't involved in music, what would you be doing in life right now?
I am in High School still but I might take up a sport like Tennis or something...or maybe a job. A little extra dime is never a bad thing. Being a musician drains the wallet.

If mom was going to make your favorite home-cooked meal, what would it be?
No contest, that would have to be Sauerkraut. I love it!

What do you do in your down time?
I love foreign languages. I study Danish, Czech, and Russian a couple hours every night I can. I also enjoy reading, occasionally gaming, and just hanging out with my friends.

Have you had any really embarrassing mishaps on stage?
Our first show....on a few songs my vocals were mixed with a horrid delay and every word I said repeated 6 or 7 times but now looking back at it (almost 3 years ago) it is pretty funny.

Any favorite songs/bands at the moment?
I am really digging a lot of Black Metal/Folk Metal right now (Agalloch, Ulver, Noktunral Mortum) and I have also been digging a Norwegian group called Jaga Jassist which blends elements of Dream Pop, Post Rock, Electronica, and Jazz together. Super cool stuff!
 Pirate or Ninja?
Pirate, no contest ;)

And lastly, what does your band name mean to you? And, whats its origin?
There is no true origin really. We were going to name the band Glass Moon but I am glad we didn't...kinda cheesy. ha  Our old guitarist was just naming ideas and we all agreed on Zurich so that is what we stuck with and we haven't looked back on it since.

ABIGAILE

PS. PIRATES ftw. Oh, and its pretty awesome that they love Sigur Ros(:
