Interview with Screaming Into Silence

How did you get started?
Well before the band, our lead guitarist (Jake) and I (Alex) have been jamming for years and decided we finally need to get a band started. We had the intention of starting the band for about two years, but didn't really get much done. So we started completely from scratch with a completely different approach, and that was only a couple months ago, I think around April or May of this year.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
There are so many bands out there that inspire us. Just watching them play all these shows with crowds who all know and love they're music and scream their name must be the greatest feeling ever. It's been all of our goals for a long time and we're finally doing something about it.

What has been your favorite venue so far? And what's your dream venue?
Our favorite has to be the Crazy Donkey in Farmingdale, New York.  The vibe in that place is always so great and so many awesome bands play there, but it's also such a friendly environment where the bands can usually associate with their fans as opposed to hanging out backstage or in their tour vans/buses.  Our dream is to play at one of the NYC theaters (Nokia, Gramercy, Irving Plaza).

If you had a chance to interview a musician who would it be, and why?

It would probably be Andy Sixx from Black Veil Brides because he's just such an inspiring guy and he's still in touch with his fans.  Also, I (Alex) watched him go from being someone only very few people knew about in 2007 and 2008 to being a huge star who is now known by basically everyone who listens to any genre similar to his.

If you could thank somebody for helping you fulfill your dreams as a musician, who would it be? And why?
We would thank anybody who gave us a chance to show them what we were capable of, whether they liked our music or not. Just seeing that people took a couple of seconds out of their day to check our stuff out means the world to all of us. We get so worked up and excited to see our fan numbers grow on our websites just because we know there are awesome people out there that are helping us work towards our success as a band.

If you weren't involved in music, what would you be doing in life right now?

Probably just going to school and eventually getting a job that I probably won't like. I mean I hope that I can always be involved in music, whether it's a full-time job or just a hobby.

If mom was going to make your favorite home-cooked meal, what would it be?
Definitely homemade tacos, even though I'd rather prefer Taco Bell.

What do you do in your down time?
Whenever I get a chance, I usually just lay down and watch TV (which is pretty rare). Otherwise, I'm usually playing guitar, covering songs and writing new stuff for the band.

Have you had any really embarrassing mishaps on stage?
Personally, I once came in late for the beginning solo of my other band's hit song. It was a small show, but I still felt pretty crappy about it.

What positive message do you want to send through your music to your fans?
All of our music is really just about our own personal experiences, mostly break-ups and all that fun stuff.  I guess our music generally tells people to be careful about choosing friends and people they trust.

Any favorite songs/bands at the moment?

Easily has to be A Day To Remember, they're my favorite band and I'm psyched about their new album "What Separates Me From You." I love their song "Second Sucks," definitely one of their most brutal songs.  Also, I've been listening to a lot of Alesana, Pierce The Veil, and Blessthefall lately.

And lastly, what does your band name mean to you? And, whats its origin?

Our band name basically means that actions can sometimes speak louder than words.  I thought this appealed to me because I was never really a big speaker, but the actions I sometimes took spoke for me. I actually thought of this name while listening to Hello Fascination by Breathe Carolina. That one line that said "You're being loud without a sound," really caught my ear, and I came up with Screaming Into Silence.
