How did you guys get started?

We formed in 2008. Jim, Sebastian, Jerry and myself (Nick) had all been friends for a while. Jerry and Sebastian had been in several bands together, Jim had played bass in a few bands, and I played bass in another band for several years myself. We were all hanging out at a local show when we had the idea to start a band together. We all had our own things going on, but we thought it would be cool to do just for fun. So we found a drummer and started jamming. Gradually it became more and more serious.
Can you describe Aegaeon's sound?
We try to create music that is relevant in the genre, yet stands out. In our new album, Dissension (which will be released on August 15th), we really tried to capture a much broader range of emotions, from beautiful to dark.

Are their any bands/musicians that have inspired your music?
For sure, all of us have drawn influence from a wide range of music to arrive at where we are musically as a whole. There are so many different artists/musicians/groups that have inspired us to some degree that it's hard to really put a finger on just a few.

Do you have a favorite song to play at shows?
I'm sure once we start playing the new album live we'll have new favorites, but I always enjoyed kicking the set off with The Inception.

What has been your favorite band to tour with so far?
Probably Hester Prynne. They really took us under their wing on our first tour and we had a blast with those guys on the road. But we definitely had a great time with all the bands we've toured with, like Eighty Thousand Dead and Did You Mean Australia?

If you could go on tour with any band, who would it be, and why?
There are many bands we'd like to tour with, but one that I'd personally like to tour with especially would be the Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza-they are killer live and really nice guys.

Do any band members have random pet-peeves while on tour?
Our guitarist Jerry will literally freak out and have a panic attack if he doesn't take a shower every day.

What is the craziest thing that has happened at one of your shows?
When we played in Wichita, Kansas a kid got hit in the pit and busted his head on the floor during one of our songs- we had to stop our set. He was out cold, and was bleeding pretty heavily, ambulances and firetrucks showed up and he left on a stretcher.

What has been your favorite venue so far?
Pembroke Pines, Florida had a great venue called the Talent Farm. The venue recorded our set and I believe it was streaming live on the internet. There were also sound-proofed rooms where you can set up and jam before the show.

If you could give a message to all your fans, what would it be?
We sincerely appreciate the continued support, we never dreamed of this band making it as far as it has. And we owe it to them for our dreams coming true to be able to travel around to play music around the country, and eventually hopefully the world. Also, make sure to get the new album Dissension on August 15th!

How exactly do you pronounce Aegaeon, and what is the origin?
Ih-jee-unn is how we pronounce it, but we don't really care how people say it.
Aegaeon is one of the Hecatonchires from Greek mythology. There were three of them, but Aegaeon was the most powerful of them. They were fifty-head, one-hundred armed beasts who defeated the titans and guard the gates of tartarus, which is three levels below Hell.

Aegaeon is:
James Martin - Vocals
Sebastian Brown - Guitar
Jerry Grannan - Guitar
Justin Bess - Drums
Nick Scott - Bass
